The Team have been informed of yet another Scam doing to rounds in the Wolverhampton area …….

 

 The circumstances of this are she has been contacted via telephone by a male stating that he is Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Harris Badge number SK105 from the serious Fraud team of the Metropolitan police, the male has called her on a private number. The male has stated that a male has been arrested in John Lewis in London for using her Bank card to buy £3000 worth of goods, the male has then called her again and stated that to help with a counterfeit operation can she go and withdraw £7000 from her bank account. The male also stated to the victim that within the banks there are people filling the banks with counterfeit money and that her money isnt safe.

 Once she had withdrew her money the male has called back and asked the victim to read the serial number off 5 of the notes to ensure these aren't counterfeit, the victim has done this over the phone and the suspect has stated that 95% of her money is counterfeit and needs to be collected.

 The victim then stated that an IC4 male, slim build, 6ft in height with short jet black hair and unknown clothing has attended her address stating to be the courier for the counterfeit cash and has given her a pass-code of 8106 which the male gave her over the phone. The IC4 male has then taken the £7000 in cash, the victim states this male attended on foot at approximately 20:15 hours on the 9th July 2025. The male claiming to be a chief inspector from the Met Police has then called her again today and requested her to open a cash ISA account and attend a local gold shop in Wolverhampton City centre to enquire how much gold she can purchase for £80,000. At this time the victim has realised she has been scammed for this money and has no carried out this task and has called the Police. Safeguarding advice has been provided to the victim and has been told to contact her bank and inform them of this.
